Laura's House | SJC
A community-driven thrift shop where donated clothing, home goods, and vintage finds support local programs that provide shelter and resources for survivors of domestic violence. For those who love a good find and an even better cause
THE FIND THE HOOKED US
We were doing our thing in the home decor section when we spotted a framed art piece sitting there, leaned up against a table like it wasn’t a big deal. The kind of thing you’d walk past in a gallery and immediately check the price tag (and then put it back). Except we didn’t put it back.
BEST HUNT FOR
Clothing. The racks are organized by vibe. Whether you’re revamping your aesthetic or just need one thing to complete an outfit, this store delivers.
YOUR KIND OF SPOT IF
You want your money to actually do some good. This place looks and feels like a boutique, organized and beautiful, but with prices that remind you it’s a thrift store. This little store is making a difference. They do $1.4M in annual revenue to aid their mission of supporting women and children who are rebuilding their lives after leaving domestic violence. Shopping at Laura’s House or donating your second hand goods to them is good for your closet, good for the planet, and good for the community.

Laura's House in San Juan Capistrano
For those who love a good find and an even better cause
The Space
Okay so we need to talk about this store. Laura's House in San Juan Capistrano looks like someone took a thrift store and asked it to be its best self. Exposed wood beam ceilings. Warm Edison lighting. Lavender walls. Antique dark wood furniture used as fixtures, ivy trailing over the shelves, florals in every corner. Every section has its own beautifully designed sign, Boho, Formal Cocktail, Knits, Jackets, with prices clearly marked. And behind all of it, a nonprofit that supports women and children escaping domestic violence.

The Mission
Laura's House is an Orange County nonprofit that provides shelter, legal advocacy, and real support to survivors of domestic violence. The store is how they fund it. And someone over there has serious vision, because this floor has been designed with genuine care. The kids section is bright and colorful with its own energy. Jewelry gets a whole antique vanity moment. Bags are displayed in white cabinetry like they belong there. When you cop that jacket or grab that framed print, you're not just thrifting, you're directly funding that work.
This is exactly the kind of store ThriftStar exists to spotlight. Fast fashion is a problem. Landfills are full of clothes that still have years of life in them. Laura's House takes beautiful things and gives them a second story, and channels the money toward people who actually need it. It doesn't get more on-mission than this.

Build Your Day Around It
SJC is genuinely one of the most underrated afternoons in Orange County and this store is the perfect excuse to go. Start with coffee on Los Rios Street, one of the oldest neighborhoods in California, all historic adobes and small cafes right by the train depot, and it's charming in a way that doesn't feel forced. Head to Laura's House, give yourself a full hour minimum, and actually hunt. Then walk over to the Mission San Juan Capistrano, which is stunning and worth the $15, before ending the day with dinner downtown.
